The Amateur is an American spy thriller film directed by James Hawes and written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell. It stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.

Charlie Heller is a brilliant but deeply introverted CIA investigator working in the basement of Langley headquarters whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London. When his superiors refuse to act, he takes matters into his own hands and embarks on a dangerous journey across the world to track down the perpetrators, using his intelligence as his best weapon to evade his pursuers and achieve revenge.
