Bertolt Brecht: MR. PUNTIL AND HIS SERVANT MATTI
An epic comedy by German playwright Bertolt Brecht from 1940, based on short stories and a play by Finnish author Hella Wuolijoki.
The rich landowner Puntila is a generous man, willing to give away his fields and cows and himself, to get engaged to four women at once, to feel sorry for the poor family of a worker, although only when he is drunk. Since this is more common than his "attacks" of sobriety, nothing is as it seems. The adventurous and cheerful nature suddenly changes into a strict father and an uncompromising capitalist. However, there is his chauffeur Matti, his unpleasant mirror. And maybe he will get Puntila's daughter Eva as a wife, so what does it matter that the landowner has arranged her for the promising Attaché, after all, business is business. Through a specific humor (the play takes the form of a so-called folk play with elements of farce, but also commedia dell' arte) the author also raises questions of social relations. Modern directing and visual design, along with excellent acting performances and live music, guarantee an extraordinary theatrical experience.
