Europe Day 2025

The European Parliament Office in Slovakia and the European Commission Representation invite you to the next annual Europe Day in Košice, which will once again take place in the pleasant surroundings of the Úsmev cinema - on May 12, 2025.

The main theme of this year's event is "The Value of Freedom" - freedom as a fundamental principle of democracy, society and everyday life, the importance of which we often realize only when it is threatened. Together we want to think about how to protect and develop freedom and not take it for granted.

The European Village will be open to visitors throughout the day , where you will learn a lot of interesting information about the activities of the exhibiting partners. Visitors can win valuable prizes in an interactive competition. In addition, an afternoon full of inspiring discussions and a good atmosphere awaits you.

The new addition will be the Euro-Parliamentary Café - a space where we can discuss serious matters with perspective and respect over a good coffee. The inspiration is the very word parliament , which comes from the French parler - to speak. Just as public matters are discussed in parliament, in our café we are creating a place for cultivated debate, playing board games with a European theme or meeting interesting guests. Because the culture of discussion is just as important as the culture of drinking coffee.

The afternoon program will open with a workshop in cooperation with the social enterprise Odpadnesh , where we will be inspired by ecology and give waste materials a new chance. Visitors will be able to create unique products for daily use and at the same time help people in need. The templates for the products were prepared by disadvantaged groups of women, mothers and people at risk of poverty, who through this work improve their living conditions and improve their work habits.

This will be followed by a discussion entitled "The Boundaries of Freedom" , which will bring perspectives from various areas of social life on the current state of freedom and democracy in Slovakia and Europe - their direction and the greatest challenges of today. Topics such as disinformation, the boundaries of freedom and the role of the European Union in protecting democratic values will be discussed by guests from the public sector, the business community and representatives of the European Parliament.

The next part of the program will be dedicated to European films. Renowned film journalist and critic Peter Konečný will guide you through the world of European cinema, which sensitively reflects the social and political challenges of Europe.

The entire event will end with an evening talk show, where moderator Michal Hudák will interview guests on the topic of freedom, what democracy means to them, but also about their personal lives and work activities. The talk show guests will be:

Peter Konečný , film publicist
Tomáš Kriššák , expert on digital media and disinformation
Petra Nagyová , executive director of Odpadnesh and expert on sustainability and upcycling
