The Lower Gate is added to the first Wednesdays for free. The archaeological underground complex of the city fortifications, which was accidentally discovered during the reconstruction of the paving on Hlavná Street in the late 1990s, is the preserved original entrance to the city. To this day, a total of 26 fragments of the walls have been preserved in various parts of the city center. Since 1998, the mysterious catacombs have been open to the public.

The renewed exhibition attracts visitors with a modern presentation method, with engaging and understandable information from the history of the city. The exhibition with multimedia presentations and interactive elements is a place of education and entertainment at the same time. Visitors can experience the whole story of the city gate here. They will see how the tower with the forecourt and bridges, the ramparts or moats gradually emerged here, they will learn new terms such as barbican, roundel or bastion. And all this thanks to archaeological finds and uncovered architectural elements.

The new interactive exhibition hides five thematic units: the Lower Gate, the fortifications of Košice, the water regime and sewage system, the history of the city, and the military - the development of period weapons. Instead of more words, the museum offers a visual guide to this underground space.
