Irons between us
At this unique exhibition, visitors will learn about the history and individual development stages of ironing - manual and machine, learn about the types of irons that were part of our homes in the past, and discover that today's ironing can also be a passion and a good way to relax...
"Deep in the human subconscious lies the desire to elevate even the simplest, most basic objects of daily use to a high artistic level. Man first struggled with matter in order to adapt and shape it to a purposeful human need. It is understandable that in the early stages of the development of human society, expediency was the deciding factor, which in connection with the given matter and ability, or the skill of the creator was the main determinant of development. As soon as man mastered matter, a simple shape was no longer enough for him, but he enriched it with tireless ingenuity and creativity, moving from the simplest elements and shapes to increasingly complex and perfect ones... These few sentences conceptually describe the principle, basic idea and content structure of the exhibition "Between with us irons", the impulse and inspiration of which was the donation of a collection of forty historical irons and additional equipment to the collection fund of the Slovak Technical Museum in 2023," explains the author of the exhibition, Dagmar Lobodová. Irons are part of our everyday life. No one can say for sure when and who invented this device, which today is commonly called an "iron", and in which country of the world it first appeared. The very first analogue of the iron, as scientists believe, was born when people created the first woven clothes. We cannot imagine today's modern household without a light, easy-to-use "smart" iron.
