Mengele's girl
The theatrical monodrama is based on the memoirs of Viola Stern Fischer, "Mengele's Girl", which was adapted into a novel by Veronika Homolová Tóthová. It presents the true story of a young woman who survived four concentration camps. She was one of the prisoners in Auschwitz who had to undergo pseudo-medical experiments by Josef Mengele.
A young girl, Viola, lives her life in Lučenec full of hope and vitality at a time when everything is destroyed by war. Family ties, hope for love, desire for education and the joys of everyday life become only memories, replaced by a bare struggle for life. Immediately upon arrival at Auschwitz, Josef Mengele selects her for a group of prisoners on whom Nazi doctors will conduct experiments.
The Independent RAMAGU Theatre - a professional regional group operating in the field of culture in the Pieniny and Zamaguria region decided to transform a successful book into a monodrama and thus revive the incredibly cruel, terrifying world that a young woman from Lučenská had to live in. Viola was experiencing her first love. She had a large and loving family, friends, ambitions and dreams. She had nothing left of it. The monodrama genre offers the opportunity to focus in detail on the emotions and world of the main heroine. The aim is also to bring an association with past events and support memento even in remote parts of the country, where there is often a feeling that the events of the "big world" sometimes do not concern us.
The production has won several major awards, including the award for best female performance at the 2022 Stage Harvest Festival.
