O. Žiugžda: The Incredible Circus
The cooperation with the famous Belarusian theater director Oleg Žiugžda has proven very successful for the management of the Puppet Theater in Košice in the past, so both parties agreed to continue it in the 2018/2019 season. The director and author in one person have prepared a non-verbal performance for the audience, based on a subtle parody of traditional circus genres. On the stage, the actors will set up a real circus tent and gradually show the basic circus genres in a light-hearted way: the illusionist Cat will perform tricks with trained mice, the Clown will perform with trained dogs, the Fakir will tame the Cobra, the Ostrich will juggle her own eggs, the Hippopotamus will dance on a tightrope and many others. The framework of the play is formed by three actors in circus costumes: the Director of the Theatre (and also the Tamer), the Red Clown and the Strong Clown, who also establish the necessary contact with the audience and give the performance an interactive character. The Fourth Clown supports them in the acting actions. Our intention was to include a performance in the permanent repertoire that the whole family can enjoy. The advantage of this non-verbal production is its comprehensibility. The theatre wants to present it at foreign theatre festivals, but of course also on the home stage. An extremely strong point of the play are the various types of circus animal puppets, created by the theatre's art workshops.
The production is suitable for audiences aged 3 and up.
