Peter Palik: PINOCCHIO

The creators' intention is to create a puppet production for children aged 5 and over and, through a theatrical performance, to bring themes and ideas that develop mutual empathy and understanding. The aim of the project is to create a puppet stage work that will be understandable, artistically attractive, modern, communicative and will offer the audience current themes and values. The instructive and magical story from the pen of the most famous Italian writer for children, Carlo Collodi, belongs to the golden fund of world fairy tales. Generations of children have been familiar with it for centuries. The story of the adventures of a wooden boy named Pinocchio still fascinates not only children, but also adults. The proof is the countless versions and adaptations of this fairy tale. The book about a wooden puppet who became a man is also an iconic model for puppet theater. The puppet theater is of fundamental importance in the story and is one of the environments where the story takes place. The fairy tale offers several primary motifs and themes that are still interesting and relevant for creators for children and youth. Topics such as upbringing, intergenerational relationships and the motif of trust, solidarity, sacrifice and, above all, truth, still have the potential to broaden the child viewer's diverse horizons in the field of education, personal emotions, or value orientation. Truth and lies are themes that are inextricably linked to the main character - Pinocchio. Nowadays, when lies have become a common part of elite communication, facts are commonly distorted in discussions, and society is divided on basic value issues, it is necessary to support the development of critical thinking through theater. The creators' ambition is to contribute to this with this production. At the same time, it will be a sensitive probe into the sphere of childhood and children's experiences. The production methods will use traditional puppetry techniques, but they will be contrasted with current technologies. The goal of this merger is to create a modern puppet show for the whole family, which, in addition to education and entertainment, will also bring an element of puppetry artistry.
