The wisdom of happiness

The feature-length documentary The Wisdom of Happiness is an intense dive into the innermost thoughts of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. It is also an intense testimony to the state of our planet.
The documentary The Wisdom of Happiness offers a portrait of the 14th Dalai Lama that is more human, up-close and personal than ever before. The filmmakers have broken new ground in form and content by combining the Dalai Lama’s musings with a gripping image of our planet and newly discovered archival footage. The result is a highly topical portrait of his thinking and knowledge. It is no surprise that his life has been the subject of several Hollywood film productions. The Dalai Lama, whose full spiritual name is Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, is one of the most recognizable figures of our time. His tenure as the leader of Tibetan Buddhism has outlasted the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, having been enthroned at the age of five.
The Wisdom of Happiness is also a film about the state of our planet. Guided by the words of the Dalai Lama, it uses moving images to reveal both the beauty and the dangers of a world so heavily influenced by our human activities. The film itself is less about the Dalai Lama than it is about this global experience. It is a magnificent work of hope for all of humanity. “The Wisdom of Happiness is an extraordinary film that we hope will have a profound impact on how we think and feel about ourselves and the others with whom we share this beautiful planet,” adds Richard Gere, one of the film’s producers.
