Vogue Intensive (workshop)
The idea of organizing a workshop in Košice is from House of Elisabeth - an informal artistic group focused on drag performance, dance and singing, organizing multi-genre performances, community events and various workshops in Košice and the surrounding area.
LECTURERS:
Monika Prikkelová from Kiki House of Velvet - the first Czech-Slovak kiki house. It was founded by Monika and Viktor in 2016 and for 10 years they have been actively involved in the creation and functioning of the local ballroom scene.
The ballroom scene, or "ballroom culture", is an African-American and Latin American LGBTI+ subculture that originated in NYC. Its history dates back to the 19th century and today you can see it, for example, from the series POSE. Gradually, Ballroom spread throughout the world and found a permanent place in it, even with regard to local conditions. This space for expressing one's personality without feeling judged belongs to all minorities who do not meet the standards set by heteronormative society.
This is where the Vogue dance style was born, which you could see on Madonna's current tour, as well as Beyoncé, and thanks to House of Velvet you will also see it at Pohoda. In Bratislava we have an 8-year history of balls, which are run by Monika Prikkelová and Roman Samotný. The most famous one is called Ball of Shame.

The workshop aims to create an inclusive and creative space for the community interested in vogue and ballroom culture. The event aims to connect the local queer and dance scene and provide a space for dance, education and relationship building.
