UNDER THE AUSPICES OF MONS. BERNARD BOBER, ARCHBISHOP - METROPOLITAN

The story of Sara Salkházi proves to be a powerful testimony of a time, place and time. She is intrinsically linked to Košice. The woman with her hands in her pockets, as she calls herself, has made an indelible mark on the history of the city. Sára Salkházi was an intellectual from a good and well-to-do family. She lived a bohemian life as a journalist, but underwent a great transformation and became a martyr of faith. Her strong social feeling, kindness and curiosity were evident in her every action, work, interests and writing. The articles written by this girl under the name of Sifax were read and discussed by people spiritedly. She could have chosen the easier path of a hotelier's daughter, but dissatisfaction forced her to seek another place and another, perhaps more difficult path. She worked as a teacher, a bookbinder, a laborer, even in a millinery shop, but it wasn't until she was 29 that she found her true calling. It was in the Society of Social Nurses. What were Sara Salkházi's internal struggles? And what fruits of her spiritual work did she lay on the altar of faith? During World War II, she helped many defenseless and persecuted people. Her life was ended by a Nazi bullet.
