Literature and film: Barbora Nemčeková

📖&🎥 Kino Úsmev and Literary Residences Košice invite you to an evening of the Literature and Film series, which will be hosted by cultural worker, dramaturg and publicist Barbora Nemčeková (SK).

Barbora Nemčeková comes from Nitra, graduated from the Department of Audiovisual Studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she has been living for several years. During her studies, she participated in the literary competition 'Mezziriadky'. She worked as the editor-in-chief of the online magazine Kinečko, headed the film section of the cultural monthly Kapitál and was the editor of Film.sk magazine at the Slovak Film Institute. In 2024, she was on the founding committee of the Cultural Unions. She works in dramaturgy, film journalism and criticism, but also writes essays on labour and the neoliberal appropriation of feminism. Her texts can be found in the filmological journal Kino-Ikon, the feminist web magazine Druhá směna, Pontón magazine or in the archives of Capital. She is a dramaturge of the independent Cinema otherwise A4 and a cultural worker. In her thesis, she worked on the theory of male gaze. She is interested in analysing the ways in which (audiovisual) works reproduce patriarchal and capitalist narratives, or how - on the contrary - they de(con)struct them. She likes to feed pigeons, collect books, read poetry and analyse everything, including films.
