P. Palik: Looking for the snowman!
Peter Palik, director, scriptwriter and lecturer at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, was involved in the creation of the puppet fairy tale Looking for the Snowman! was loosely inspired by Jan Uličiansky's charming book Snowman Islands. Palik wrote it especially for the Puppet Theatre in Košice, which wanted to enrich its permanent repertoire with a winter fairy tale based on adventures in a snowy landscape. The main heroine of the story is a little vagabond Boni, who builds a snowman to make her feel happier and not sad. One day, however, the snowman unexpectedly disappears. Boni alerts all her friends and they decide to search for the snowman together. They conclude that it has probably floated away on an ice floe down a river somewhere far out to sea. The only one who can help Boni is the old sea captain Vykuk. He is reluctant at first because he has long since hung up his captain's hat. But Boni and the vagabonds convince him, and finally they set out together to find the lost snowman. During their voyage through the Arctic Ocean, they get to know the mysterious snowmen, the snow city of Frostbite, Emperor Louis XIV and General Frost. Their pilgrimage finally ends with a snowman who reveals a great secret. In addition to the humour interwoven in Peter Palik's fairy tale story, the play also deals with themes such as intergenerational relations and social differences in society. The main theme of the work is the issue of global warming and environmental protection, presented in a non-violent way, also suitable for a child viewer. The author has tried to include an ecological message in the play that can inspire children.
The production is suitable for children aged 4 and up.
