The Fairy Tale of Filipek is an original Belarusian fairy tale, the first of its kind we are presenting from this geographical area. Right from the start, however, we find that Slavic, European and even global fairy tales seem to come from a single well. That is why we discover in the play the motifs of Thumbelina, Janko Hrašek, The Gingerbread House, Pinocchio and others. The author and the director have tried to combine the story in a balanced way with an emphasis on the distinction of moral values, with a good dose of sometimes even black humour. The grandfather and grandmother, tired of the monotony of poverty and old age, come, as if by a miracle, to their little son. The grandfather carves him out of a log to 'fleece' the grandmother, but, wonder of wonders, the log hatches into a viable baby son, to the delight of the parents and the annoyance of the witch. The fight over her pond and who gets to eat who is interspersed with hilarious episodes of the resourceful Filipek, a cowardly blacksmith who promises the impossible just to avoid the witch's threats. Particularly poetic are the motifs when Filipko teams up with the wild geese, who help him take flight in the manner of the mythical Icarus. Even as a puppet, Filipko with wings donated by the geese is a very impressive image - a metaphor for how to cope in the most difficult moments, how to literally rise above life's difficulties. The way the actors handle the puppets is also unconventional, a combination of a simple marionette, but also puppets known from the English muppet show (the witch). The set, puppets, costumes of the actors, including the director and the composer, were created by a complex team from Belarus. The creators are known in the puppetry world not only for many international awards, but also for the quality of true puppetry art.

The production is suitable for children from 4 years old.

Beáta Dubielová, Erika Orgován Molnárová, Juraj Fotul, Miroslav Kolbašský.
