Sergey Banevich: Snow Queen
The opera was first performed at the world-famous Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg in 1979 and has been in its repertoire almost continuously ever since. In it, the author reveals the whole complex world of opera to a child audience, from the lively, colourful orchestra, to the challenging but melodious solo parts, to the atmosphere of the theatre as a magical dream space.
The opera is based on one of the most beautiful fairy tales by H. Ch. Andersen and tells the story of the children Gerda and Kai, who are searching for beauty. It is a story about true friendship and growing up.
This opera production for children will be educational and has the potential to appeal to child or school audiences or entire families.
