Silence over 8000 - Košice premiere of a documentary about the ascent of Manáslu
Discussion and film evening with Maria Hundža Stratilová and director Michal Gálik dedicated to the expedition to Manáslu (8163 m above sea level), the eighth highest mountain in the world. The evening will also include the Košice premiere of the new documentary film Silence over 8000. You will learn not only what obstacles have to be overcome on the way to the top of the eight-thousanders, but also how the documentary is made in the extreme Himalayan conditions.
Both Mária Hundža Stratilová and the director Michal Gálik are Košice inhabitants in body and soul, so they are especially pleased to present this film to the local audience.
Silence over 8000 (26 min)
What makes a man willingly risk his own life? And is it possible to live the same life as before after returning from the summit? After burnout and a serious knee injury, former neurosurgeon Maria Hundja Stratil leaves her former life behind and travels to the Himalayas to climb Mount Manaslu. Director Michal Gálik captures not only the expedition itself, but also the personal transformation of the protagonist, her search for a new life path and the impact of extreme decisions on her partner and family relationships.
Mária Hundža Stratilová
She is an ultra-runner and a doctor whose love for mountains and moving in nature has accompanied her all her life. After a serious knee injury, she discovered in herself the strength not to give up even in moments when the path hurts and breaks a person from the inside. It was this experience that eventually led her to her first eight-thousand-foot peak - Manasla.
Michal Gálik
A documentary filmmaker who has travelled to more than 70 countries around the world with camera in hand. His work focuses primarily on global environmental issues, but he is also close to expedition films from remote parts of the world - from the bowels of the Congolese rainforest to the peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas.
