SPORTS PERSONALITY OF BASKETBALL

The Sports Personality of Košice project was established in 2009 to gradually create an appropriate social framework associated with the appreciation of those who in the current season or even in the distant past have achieved exceptional sporting success or have become natural authorities in the field of sport through their actions.

The search for and moral recognition of such personalities is one of the main objectives of the project, which has become well known under the acronym ŠOK. The nominations of the honoured are annually in the competence of the Košice Sports Academy, composed of erudite sports journalists and the organisers of the poll, but the suggestions of the professional public representing the sports scene in Košice are also given space.

The pleiad of previous ŠOK laureates is really wide and varied. In addition to the ten most successful athletes in the senior category, there are also young talents in the Hope category, prominent personalities of the past years, who are rightfully labeled Legends, as well as handicapped athletes and collectives. A long-standing love of sport is appreciated under the proverbial Masters label.

The award is, as already mentioned, of an eminently moral nature. All laureates receive an artistic metal sculpture, in which the academic sculptor Ján Leško and the designer František Záborský participated. The absolute winner also receives its travelling form, which in the history of the poll has been touched by the hands of exceptional athletes crowned as the imaginary kings or queens of the year.
