The Flood tells a story from Czechoslovakia in 1980. Mara is 15 years old and longs to become a pilot and leave the village life. However, her father Alexander, a Ruthenian peasant and widower, insists that she stay at home and continue to work on her native land. When their valley is about to be flooded due to the construction of the Starina dam, they both have to cope with the loss of their home and family heritage. At the same time, they search for a way to reconcile with each other amidst the struggle between tradition, identity and the desire for freedom.
