The original Slovak family musical for the whole family Almost Proud Princess will delight many a child. The Theatre Without Masks will make Sunday afternoons more enjoyable for child audiences on 1 December 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the Historic Town Hall.

The creators Michal Babiak, head of dramaturgy of Spišský divadlo, and Milan Malinovský, who is the author of music and lyrics, based their creation on the Czech folk tale Potrestaná púda from the collection of Božena Němcová Národní báchorky a pověsti II. The fairy tale is famous for its 1952 film adaptation starring Alena Vránová in the title role. The film The Proud Princess was seen in Czechoslovak cinemas by 8.2 million viewers, a record that has not yet been surpassed.

The theatrical adaptation differs slightly from the literary or film version, as it was created for a theatrical setting and for a contemporary audience. Audiences can look forward to new plot twists and new characters - the wicked witch Czernorada, the dancing jester and the confused King Midnight.

The plot is playful, positive and educational for the young. A strong moment of the musical is the song I Am As I Am, in which the main character reveals her inner journey to self-acceptance and self-confidence. Sarah C as Princess Charming performs it with sensitivity and passion, conveying a universal message to the audience: everyone is unique and worthy of love. As usual, love triumphs over evil in this performance.
