VIRVAR 2026

Virvar 2026 comes in an unconventional form.

The 14th edition of the Virvar International Puppet Theatre Festival will be dedicated to Slovak and Czech puppet theatre. In the year of the 10th anniversary of the inscription of puppetry in Slovakia and the Czech Republic on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the festival naturally joins the Year of Puppet Theatre project, whose partner is the Puppet Theatre of the Košice Region.

The programme will include a showcase of the current season of the Puppet Theatre of the Košice Region, productions of established and non-established theatres from Slovakia and the Czech Republic, performances for young children, teenagers and adult audiences, a masterclass From Object to Stage Image with Zuzana and Robert Erby (Erbytheater, Munich), a staged reading of texts by young authors from the Dramatically Young project (in cooperation with the Theatre Institute in Bratislava), a children's jury and the festival newspaper Virvar Press (in cooperation with the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava), flashcards and a Theatre Laboratory.
