Savor the autumn colors in the city to the fullest and plan a getaway for couples with the following itinerary. Discover how to fall in love with Košice during a romantic weekend while delving into the city's history and contemporary life. Where should you and your partner definitely go during your next visit?

1

Legendary Classics

No visit to Košice is complete without a tour of the largest cathedral in Slovakia and the absolute centerpiece of the historic old town. Dive into the secrets and fascinating stories of the Gothic St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, boasting the renowned Sigismund Tower, a relic of the medieval Miracle of Christ’s Blood, the tomb of Francis II Rákóczi, and an impressive altar. Book a guided tour, climb the spiral staircase to the heights of the northern tower, or marvel at the gargoyle of the drunken woman.

Complement your historical tour by admiring Urban Tower, a bell tower dedicated to the patron of winemakers, or St. Michael's Church, a popular wedding venue today — it might just spark some new thoughts!

2

History Underground

Visit the medieval catacombs of Košice, which have been hidden for centuries beneath the city's surface. The Underground Archaeological Museum at Lower Gate Košice will introduce you to the story of the medieval fortified city from the 13th century, along with its accidental discovery during excavation work for the reconstruction of Main Street in 1995–1996. Here, you will find remnants of the Arpadian Wall, the Luxembourg Tower, stone sewage systems, the Korvin barbican, and the Bethlen Bastion.

3

The Artistic Face of the City

Art and culture are an inseparable part of Košice's historical narrative and its contemporary activities. Discover this side of the city with your partner – the best opportunity is at the Vojtech Löffler Museum, where you can admire a permanent exhibition with over 2,000 items from the collection of the master himself. The museum also offers the chance to explore artworks by contemporary young artists during regular exhibitions and an interesting music program. For artistically inclined couples, we also recommend the Evening Drawing workshop, where you can quietly try out drawing techniques under the guidance of a professional expert.

4

Escape in 60 Minutes

Have fun with your partner solving puzzles and riddles in the escape rooms at TheRooms, scattered throughout the historic city center. The escape rooms are themed, so you can immerse yourselves in your favorite stories, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, Tutankhamun, Jigsaw, Wonderland, or Prison Break. Did you know that TheRooms is the largest escape room network in Slovakia? Don’t hesitate – enjoy the fun together!

Enough with the exploration – it’s time to indulge in the gastronomy that’s a must on any romantic getaway! Head to the recently opened Márai Bistro on Main Street, right in front of the impressive St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral. The bistro is inspired by the story and life of the most famous writer from Košice, whose books have been translated into many languages around the world.

Discover the life and works of Sándor Márai and his family while savoring dishes like cold melon soup, Hungarian vegetable lecsó with mangalica sausage, Márai hamburger, camembert baked in walnut breadcrumbs, or apple tiramisu.

8

Independent Theatre Play

Take a glimpse into the theatrical world on the boards that mean the world, and spend a romantic evening immersed in the often poignant themes of independent theatre at Divadlo Na Peróne. Its charming venue is located on Zvonárska Street, where you can relax and chat over a glass of fine wine or a delicious green matcha before the performance. Current plays that you can reserve in your calendar include Smutná správa zo smutnej krajiny (Sad News from a Sad Country) and Naslepo (Blindfolded).

9

Cultural Relaxation and Entertainment

For a more traditional approach and lighter themes, we recommend the Košice City Theatre, which follows the model of a classic repertory theatre. In its rich program, especially during the autumn season, you'll find classic comedies, dramatic chamber pieces, talk shows, and performances for children and youth. Located in the beautiful Historical Town Hall on Main Street, the theatre offers great performances by well-known Slovak actors. The program also includes workshops for students, cultural events in the city, chamber concerts, and literary events.

10

Folk Handcrafts

Have fun with your loved one and create something truly special together! Stop by the ÚĽUV – the Centre of Folk Art Production on Mäsiarska Street in Košice, where you can easily book a workshop and learn a craft.
