A Weekend at SteelPark: When the Spirit Comes Alive
A ghost that flies without wings? At SteelPark over the weekend of October 24 and 25, 2026, it will be shown that even truly mysterious phenomena can have a perfectly scientific explanation.
In a short demonstration titled “When a Ghost Comes to Life,” based on the workshop “Mysterious Science with a Witch,” a paper ghost takes to the air without anyone touching it. Behind its “spooky” movement lies static electricity, an electric charge, and a force that, while invisible, has very observable effects.
The demonstrations will take place at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. and will last approximately 15 to 20 minutes. During these demonstrations, children can make their own paper ghost, experiment with a balloon, and see how an electric charge can set in motion even an object that, by all appearances, should remain still.
Why does your hair stand on end when you rub certain materials together? How can a balloon attract light objects without touching them? And can an invisible force even overcome gravity for a moment? The answers lie in electrostatics.
From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., visitors can relax at creative workshops featuring wooden puzzles that will challenge both dexterity and spatial reasoning.
The visit also includes an interactive exhibit and the “Creativity Will Save the World” exhibition as part of the MyMachine program. It demonstrates how children’s ideas and imaginations can be transformed, step by step, into functional prototypes.
