Contemporary cinema, too, is often heavily influenced by older films. Many filmmakers repeat or adapt tried-and-true themes, build upon or reference other films stylistically or thematically, or shoot remakes of successful blockbusters.

Film critic PaedDr. Martin Šmelko, PhD., presents a loose thematic continuation of his lecture “An Evening of Fascinating Films You May (Never) Have Seen.” During an evening full of interesting information and clips, he will this time present more than 30 films (most of which are relatively unknown here), many of which inspired other filmmakers to create popular hits.

Also featured will be surprising Czechoslovak versions of widely popular themes, half-forgotten originals of both successful and unsuccessful remakes, and—in contrast to their predecessors—a few unusual film sequels, feature-length responses to other works, or films created using material from other movies.
