Andy Warhol’s Project | Multimedia Concert Show

What connects the king of pop art, Andy Warhol, with Rusyn folk songs? The answer will be revealed at the Andy Warhol’s project, which will take place on November 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Historic Town Hall in Košice. This multimedia concert will blend pop, jazz, opera, and folklore to tell the story of the Warhol family and its Rusyn roots.

In the late 1970s, Andy Warhol took his mother, Julia, to a recording studio in New York, where they recorded original Rusyn folk songs together. The LP recording was then sent to their loved ones “back home”—to the homeland of their ancestors—as a Christmas gift.

It is this story that inspired Andy Warhol’s project, which brings together different musical worlds into a single concert program.

Performing on stage will be Marián Čekovský, who brings pop and jazz; Igor Kucer, representing the world of opera; and Ondrej Kandráč with a folk repertoire. Their musical styles will converge in a synthesis of world music, accompanied by the Emotion Group.

The project will offer an unconventional blend of contemporary music with Rusyn folk traditions and the story of the family of one of pop art’s most prominent figures.
