In 1929, a children’s book titled *About a Dog and a Cat* was published. Its author is Josef Čapek, a versatile Czech artist, painter, illustrator, writer, editor, and humanist. Slovak director Braňo Mazúch was also loosely inspired by the stories from Josef Čapek’s fairy-tale book when creating the interactive play *About a Dog and a Cat*.

The stories in *About a Little Dog and a Little Cat* have inspired many authors to write radio plays based on them, as well as theatrical productions. The humor of the stories stemmed largely from the fact that the little dog and the little cat tried to do everything just like people—only a bit clumsily, awkwardly, curiously, and confusedly. Although the Dog and the Cat are, in essence, opposite characters, in Josef Čapek’s stories they serve as models of tolerance, mutual respect, and solidarity. The narrator, who plays an important role in Čapek’s work, is also a dominant element on stage in our production. In director Mazúch’s concept, the narrators are two actors, Miroslav Kolbašský and Kristína Medvecká Heretiková. They appear in charming costumes resembling a puppy and a kitten, which were crafted by the theater’s art workshops. This interactive play is loosely inspired by the literary work, but its theatrical adaptation has taken on a distinctly modern character, bearing the unique artistic stamp of an experienced director.

The production is suitable for children ages 5 and up.
