BE2CAN: Her Personal Hell
15+ (violence, sex, fear)
Acclaimed Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, the visionary creator of the *Dealer* trilogy and films such as *Drive* and *The Neon Demon*, returns with a hypnotic horror-sci-fi odyssey that blends existential drama, supernatural horror, and dreamlike noir aesthetics. In a futuristic metropolis engulfed by an unnatural fog, a young woman searches for her missing father. Her path crosses that of an American soldier trying to rescue his daughter from a place he believes is hell itself. As reality turns into a nightmare, grief, guilt, and longing take on a tangible form. The film explores how people create their own private hells through fear, obsession, and loss. Inspired by Refn’s personal experience with clinical death, this film is his most personal work to date—a meditation on mortality, rebirth, and transformation. The film builds on the neon aesthetic of *Drive* and *The Neon Demon*, combining striking visual stylization, minimalist storytelling, and surreal sci-fi visions with music by legendary Italian composer Pino Donaggio. The film stars Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Kristine Froseth, and other members of an international cast. The film had its world premiere in the Official Selection at the 2026 Cannes International Film Festival, marking Nicolas Winding Refn’s return to the festival’s Croisette.
