Russia, 2022. Successful businessman Gleb (Dmitry Mazurov) lives in a beautiful house by the water with his wife Galina (Iris Lebedeva) and their young son. Although Gleb has political connections, he is not immune to the radical changes in Russian society and finds himself under enormous pressure to quell panic and keep his business running. Meanwhile, Galina feels constant pressure to be the perfect wife and mother. When Gleb begins to suspect that Galina is cheating on him, this usually level-headed man makes a fateful decision that brings him to the brink of emotional and moral collapse. Winner of the Golden Lion for the film *The Return* (2003) and a frequent award winner at the Cannes International Film Festival, Andrei Zvyagintsev (Leviathan, Loveless, Elena) vividly reflects Russian society over the past two decades in his work. *Minotaur* is a loose, modern remake of Claude Chabrol’s *The Unfaithful Wife* (1969), which transposes the story of marital infidelity into a contemporary Russian setting shaped by political and social decay. While Chabrol’s original focuses on bourgeois suspicion and personal jealousy, this film expands the narrative to post-2022 Russia, where the war in Ukraine and the pressures of business form an inseparable backdrop to everyday life.
