BE2CAN: Pina
12+ (nudity, fear)
PINA is a visually captivating tribute to the legendary German choreographer Pina Bausch, a pioneer of dance theater (Tanztheater), whose groundbreaking work blended dance, theater, and profound human emotions. Instead of a traditional documentary, Wim Wenders creates a powerful cinematic experience that captures the essence of her artistic vision through movement, space, and memories. The film emerged from a long-standing shared dream of Wenders and Bausch to bring her choreography to the big screen using 3D technology. Following Pina Bausch’s unexpected death in 2009, just a few days before filming was scheduled to begin, Wenders decided to continue the project at the urging of the dancers of the Tanztheater Wuppertal, turning the film into a moving tribute to her memory. The film features excerpts from her key works—*The Rite of Spring*, *Café Müller*, *Kontakthof*, and *Vollmond*—supplemented by personal recollections from members of the company. PINA celebrates the legacy of one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century. It had its world premiere at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival in 2011 and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Feature-Length Documentary, securing its place among the most significant films about dance.
