The Košice - Staré Mesto district, with the support of the City of Košice, invites the public to the fall community event “Kapustobranie-Hranie,” which will take place on Saturday,

October 17, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Dominikánske Square.

The event will combine traditional cuisine, folklore, theater, live music, dance, children’s activities, and contemporary fashion with folkloric elements. The program is designed for families with children, young people, seniors, and visitors to the city.

“Our ambition is to create an event where traditions come to life and connect with the present—all around a shared table, with music, creative activities, and gatherings of people of all generations,” explain the organizers.

The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the opening of the event and a welcome to visitors, guests, partners, and supporters. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Portál Theater will perform a show for children and families.

At 11:30 a.m., a folk group will take the stage, presenting a traditional program that includes fujara music. The atmosphere of the event throughout the day will be enhanced by the jazz group Multi Age and DJ sets.

The food court will open around 11:30 a.m. Its main offering will be traditional Koložvár cabbage, which visitors can enjoy for a symbolic price of 2 euros per serving, while supplies last. The menu will also feature cabbage rolls and Tu a Teraz pancakes.

The afternoon program will feature a presentation of traditional folk costumes and contemporary fashion with folklore elements, and you can also look forward to an interesting artistic program. The fashion show is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m.

For our youngest visitors, a children’s zone will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring all-day creative workshops and other accompanying activities. The venue will also feature community and relaxation areas with seating.

Kapustobranie-Hranie aims to show that folklore, traditional foods, and autumn customs don’t have to be a thing of the past. When presented in a modern, community-oriented way, they can appeal to children, young people, and older generations alike, creating a space for everyone to come together in the heart of the city.
