Fat Man 2.0

'The Fat Man 2.0' is a dystopian theatrical collage about a country in which literature has once again become a suspicious activity and culture is subject to official scrutiny. The production by Divadlo Na Peróne is based on the short story collection The Fat Man, but it does not focus on just one literary experiment: it places fragments of selected stories within the framework of a fictional conversation between an editor at a state publishing house and a writer in exile, and confronts them with an ironic return to Barč’s *The Greasy Pot*. From these layers, it constructs a portrait of a society that, under the pretext of order, national identity, and “proper” art, is learning to forget freedom. Humor, the grotesque, awkwardness, and anxiety about power all blend here into the greasy veneer of an era in which books may still be read, but increasingly so only to decide whether they are allowed to survive. *The Greasy Man 2.0* is a production about a country that fears its own authors, its own memory, and ultimately its own freedom.
