Ivan Sokol International Organ Festival

The Ivan Sokol International Organ Festival (MOFIS) is the oldest organ festival in Slovakia. The founder and long-time artistic director of the event was Ivan Sokol (1937–2005), a soloist with the Košice State Philharmonic. Organ recitals by prominent domestic and international artists were initially held primarily at St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral. Organ concerts accompanied by a symphony orchestra took place in the concert hall of the House of Arts, which features a three-manual organ with two consoles.

In its early years, MOFIS was an integral part of the Košice Music Spring. In 1991, however, it became an independent event and is held at the start of the Košice State Philharmonic’s concert season—in the second half of September.

In 2006, the Košice State Philharmonic successfully expanded this spectacular showcase of organ music to the wider region and, in close cooperation with local partners, organizes organ recitals in Spišská Nová V, Poprad, Kežmarok, Rimavská Sobota, Sabinov, and other cities, where they are met with great public interest.

Visitors will be able to discover the magic of the largest musical instrument from September 13 to 29, 2026, along the route Košice – Spišská Nová Ves – Sabinov – Poprad – Rimavská Sobota – Kežmarok – Prešov.
