Martin Kákoš, Jozef Lenhart: BONVIVÁN
Accept the invitation to a picturesque, art nouveau Bratislava café, breathing in the past. It is there that the life story of the famous bon vivant begins to unfold. His fate also reflects the times that not only he, but also our entire country, experienced. Our fathers or hallucinations. The production BONVIVÁN is inspired by the life twists and turns of the legend of Slovak popular music and entertainment theater - František Krištof Veselý. It reveals the curtain of the theater backstage, a part of Slovak history... It returns to the beginnings of the Nová scéna Theater, captures the birth of his genius loci.
The performance is not a biographical play copying individual stages of a specific artist's life. It is a kind of universal story of an artist in a tangle of professional and personal relationships, in the gears of rolling history. It is a model of confronting the disillusionment of reality with his dreams and desires. Bonviván was an artist whose ambition was "only" to entertain people, to provide them with moments of distraction, joy and fun despite the difficult period (economic crisis, fascism, war, the rise of communism). That is why he always avoided involvement in political and social conflicts. He did not want to belong to any "camp", and yet time always caught up with him. Even today we ask: Can an artist remain impartial, apolitical, "pure"? Isn't he often involuntarily drawn into the "game of the powerful"? Must he always become an instrument of manipulation, abuse and social confrontations at the cost of his own popularity (or because of it?)?
The production will offer the audience a strong story, funny and surprising moments in the plot. Retro fresh interpretations of immortal songs from the repertoire of FK Veselý. And with a live orchestra! And also beautiful period costumes in generous decoration or elegance, nobility, humor, but also dramatic twists and funny bon mots.
Accept the offer of the Nová scéna Theater to travel through time to such an exciting era, follow the extraordinary story of an extraordinary person and learn something about him, about the country in which we lived and still live, or about ourselves.
