Michail Uryckij: THE LITTLE ELEPHANT
A fairy tale about a little elephant, based on a story by Rudyard Kipling, is coming to the stage of the Puppet Theater in Košice through the interpretation of Ukrainian author and director Mykhailo Urytskyi. Little Elephant lives in the jungle with Hippo, Giraffe, Ostrich, and Baboon. Since he is constantly curious and asks questions about everything, the other animals lose their patience with him and beat him up. In a fit of anger, they even want to give him to the Crocodile, whom Little Elephant had never heard of before. Thus begins Little Elephant’s journey in search of the mysterious Crocodile—and, at the same time, in search of knowledge. Along the way, he meets other animals and experiences both joyful and dangerous adventures. In the end, the Crocodile gives him the greatest gift little Elephant could ever receive. The play is a parable about a world of people who would rather live within traditional stereotypes than seek a different path toward new horizons. The production is intriguing and unconventional thanks to its choreography, dance, and singing, which transport the audience to distant Africa. The beautiful and intricately crafted puppets in the hands of the actors on stage literally come to life, and the combination of these elements makes *The Little Elephant* a spectacular, modern, and visually stunning production for both children and adults.
The production is suitable for children ages 3 and up.
