On the Art of Cooking
The Vojtech Löffler Museum cordially invites you to the grand opening of the exhibition *On the Art of Cooking*, which will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the museum located at 20 Alžbetina Street in Košice. The event is part of this year’s Days of Czech Culture 2026 festival.
The exhibition, prepared in collaboration with the Scientific Library in Olomouc, showcases the rarest culinary publications from its collection spanning the last five centuries. These historical prints served not only as sources of recipes but also as guides to social behavior and cultural customs.
Visitors can look forward to 27 selected titles, among which the oldest printed cookbook, *De honesta voluptate* from 1503 by the Italian humanist Bartholomeo Sacchi, stands out, as does the original copy of *The German Pantry* by Hieronymus Bock, featuring unique colored woodcuts. The Czech culinary tradition is represented by the oldest Czech printed cookbook, *Kuchařství* by Bavor Rodovský of Hustiřany from 1591, as well as works by the legendary Magdaléna Dobromila Rettigová, including samples of her recipes.
The exhibition will run through November 28, 2026. We look forward to your visit.
The event is organized in cooperation with the State Scientific Library in Olomouc, CzechTourism, the Czech Association in Slovakia, the Czech Association in Košice, and the Czech Center in Bratislava, with financial support from the Fund for the Support of the Culture of National Minorities of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
