Tommy Emmanuel, whom NPR’s World Cafe has called “one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world,” began playing at the age of six, touring his native Australia with his family band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a sought-after session and studio musician, and by the age of twenty, Emmanuel was playing chart-topping hits and performing with bands such as Air Supply and Men at Work. Emmanuel, partly inspired by his hero Chet Atkins (who later became his friend, mentor, and collaborator), struck out on his own as a solo artist in 1979 and released the first in a series of acclaimed instrumental albums that made him an unexpected celebrity both in his home country and abroad. In the decades that followed, he headlined venues ranging from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; toured with legends such as Eric Clapton and John Denver; won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; performed before a television audience of more than two billion people at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborated with numerous guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Emmanuel’s latest album, *Living In The Light*, recorded in just four days, represents the boldest—and most rewarding—collection in this globetrotting fingerpicker’s remarkable catalog, blending his influences from pop, jazz, classical, and roots music into a virtuoso masterpiece that is both exhilarating and intimate.
