Fire doesn't have to be just yellow. In the right company, it can glow red, purple, green, or blue-green. During the weekend of November 7–8, 2026, at SteelPark, you’ll see what happens inside a flame when various chemical elements come into play.

A short demonstration titled “The Colorful Flame,” based on the workshop “Spooky Wanderings Through Middle-earth,” will introduce children to the fascinating world of chemistry and show that the colors of fire are not random. Each element has its own characteristic “light signature.”

The demonstrations will take place at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. and will last approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

In the dim light, an ordinary flame gradually transforms into a series of vivid colored flashes. Behind this transformation lies the energy that atoms gain when heated. When they subsequently return to their original state, they release this energy in the form of light—and it is precisely the color of this light that can reveal which element we are dealing with.

Children will be able to observe the different hues, match them to chemical elements, and take part in a fun guessing game. Perhaps they’ll discover that a similar principle is behind the colors of spectacular fireworks.

From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., there will also be creative workshops featuring wooden puzzles, where children can put their dexterity, logical thinking, and patience to the test.

The visit will also include SteelPark’s permanent interactive exhibition, which offers plenty of opportunities to discover science through play, experimentation, and hands-on exploration. Visitors can thus find time alongside the weekend program to make further discoveries and try out various interactive exhibits.
