William Shakespeare: ROMEO AND JULIA
Dynamic, passionate theatre telling the Renaissance story of Verona. The stage will also see duels with daggers, knives and rapiers, original swords made in Italy. O. Šoth (director and choreographer) does not want to offer the audience Romeo and Juliet as a romantic story. He honours the source material and it is based on the Renaissance, when women were not romantic but worked hard. He wants to show Juliet as a proper Italian, a woman who was not afraid to be temperamental. Thus, more than the music of S. Prokofiev, he relied on the text of W. Shakespeare. He omitted much of Prokofiev's original music and used only the best of it, then added the music of W. A. Mozart and J. B. Pergolessi, Romeo and Juliet was nominated for the 2006 DOSKY Awards for direction and choreography and costumes - Theatre Nitra.
