Meet the new baby animals at Košice Zoo
If, for example, you’d like to get to know some exotic and domestic animals, head to the vast realm of Košice Zoo with its very own Dinopark, where you can spend the whole day strolling through the extensive grounds, take part in guided feeding sessions and learn as much as possible about these extraordinary animal species. What’s more, right now you can come and say hello to seven adorable Korzak fox cubs, a bear cub called Leon, and a dwarf zebu calf named Ganga!
Experience cultural events in the botanical world
Our summer recommendations also include a visit to the Košice Botanical Garden , with its peaceful grounds full of misty greenhouses and outdoor areas. Butterfly enthusiasts can look forward, until 5 July 2026, to a regular and always breathtaking exhibition of live tropical butterflies featuring 130 species, including the world’s largest – the Atlas moth (Attacus atlas). Throughout the summer, the gardens will also host a traditional arts programme as part of the Cultural Summer event.
On a retro train into the Košice countryside
Experience the sound of historic locomotives from the era of the former Czechoslovakia and set off on a journey through the forest to the cycle-drezina circuit at the Alpinka Family Centre. On the little trains Košice Children’s Railway , you can relax amidst Košice’s natural surroundings whilst learning more about the history of vintage trains in this part of Slovakia. For those keen to explore the secrets of the region’s former mining heritage, there is also the planned opening of the Museum of Mining Vehicles – Košická štreka, featuring refurbished underground vehicles, as well as new exhibition tracks, a shelter serving as an open-air museum, and the telling of the extraordinary story of the Bankov mine in Košice and other almost forgotten mines.
As part of the summer programme on the Children’s Railway, you can already look forward to fantastic trips on the Retro Train to Slovak Paradise, to Gemer and Betliar, to the Dobšinská Ice Cave, to Jasov and Medzev, as well as a special steam-themed edition of the VÝHYBKA show featuring Ľubomír Lehotský’s railway talk show and the fantastic August Steam Nostalgia Days!

What’s more, during the summer you can also enjoy the interactive Wonderville tour, where parents can relax undisturbed whilst young visitors have fun with a guide and go on a treasure hunt for children aged 5 and over.
Bonus: Did youknow that the third-largest pétanque court in Slovakia has recently opened in Košice? You’ll find this much-anticipated court, featuring 16 courts, in the Pereš district, ready for your sporting exploits!
